Building long-term relationships and success
Shortly after the passage of the National Currency Act, which created the National Banking System, a group of twelve prominent and influential citizens of Chester County, Pennsylvania joined together to apply for a national bank charter. On December 10, 1863 The First National Bank of West Chester was granted its national charter; charter number 148.
The bank opened for business on January 2, 1864 in a rented property at 19 North High Street in West Chester, PA with two full-time employees and a part-time president. The new Bank was well received by the community and the growing volume of business required more help and more space. In March of 1865, the Bank moved into a new building at 5 North High Street but by the early 1900's the Bank's expansion of services and continued growth made it necessary to find more adequate quarters. In 1912, the Bank moved into its present location at 9 North High Street.
To reflect the growth and expansion of the bank and focusing on Chester County as the bank's primary market area, First National Bank of West Chester changed its name to First National Bank of Chester County in February of 1990.
In 2010, First National Bank of Chester County merged with Tower Bancorp, Inc., the holding company of Graystone Tower Bank. At that time, First National Bank of Chester County changed its name to 1N Bank, a division of Graystone Tower Bank. Graystone Tower Bank is comprised of three divisions - Graystone Bank, Tower Bank and 1N Bank serving the communities of Maryland and the southeastern and central regions of Pennsylvania.
